Tenancy Assistance
Urban Communities provides secure long-term housing.
Our Tenancy Team:
- Manage tenancies including rental payments (including assessing eligibility for rent rebates) and home maintenance. For more information about home maintenance click here to visit the Maintenance of your home page on our website.
- Link residents into programs within the community eg home help, support services, community services and activities. For further details click here to visit the Community section of our website.
- Carry out regular home visits to check that new residents have settled in and keep in regular contact with all residents to ensure they are well
- Provide an outreach service with community health service social workers.
From the moment a resident moves into their home, Urban Communities:
- Listens. We give all residents a voice and treat all residents equally
- Talks to people and families about their housing and personal needs
- Deals with issues promptly
- Determines any housing modification requirements
- Links people with, and stays in touch with, a person’s case managers or social workers to ensure they are provided with suitable and stable housing and ongoing support services as needed
- Is transparent, honest and clear with residents on issues such as rent arrears and residents’ responsibilities
- Encourages social and community participation.
Eligibility and Applications for Public Housing
If you are on a low income and cannot find suitable housing to rent privately, you can apply to rent public housing. To be considered for public housing you must:
- Live in Victoria
- Not own or part own a unit, house or flat
- Not exceed the current income and assets limit
- Have Australian citizenship or permanent residency status
- Repay any money that you still owe from a previous public housing residency or bond loan.
To apply, fill out a General Public Housing application form. You can get a form from any public housing office or from our office at 42 Derby Street, Kensington.
For urgent accommodation you can apply for Early Housing. Fill out an Early Housing application form – available from any public housing office or from the Urban Communities office.
