The redevelopment of the Kensington site is the first major project to revitalise a large inner-city high-rise public housing estate.
The Kensington Housing Estate Redevelopment Project was launched in August 2002. The project was designed to redevelop the six and a half hectare Holland Park public housing estate.
The redevelopment involved the demolition of all buildings on the site, with the exception of two high-rise buildings, and the construction of new residences for private purchase and new public housing apartments.
At the same time, the Office of Housing undertook major upgrading works on the two remaining high-rise buildings on the site.
On completion, in mid 2012, the redevelopment will consist of 50% private apartments and 50% public housing apartments.
At Kensington, Urban Communities manages over 800 properties on behalf of government and private investors and owns 15 social/affordable properties.
