Community meetings

Kensington Community Liaison Committee (CLC) – meets third Friday of every month at Urban Communities. The monthly meetings are a great way for community members to take part in their community and to learn about what is happening in their neighbourhood.

The CLC is made up of residents, local council, Office of Housing, local traders and community groups and services and plays an important role in recognising community issues and opportunities.

Kensington Public Tenants Association (KPTA)

Holds monthly meetings for public housing residents at the KPTA office, 56 Derby Street, Kensington

Kensington Community Advisory Committee

Holds monthly meetings to plan strategies and projects to support educational and vocational pathways and opportunities for young people via structured recreational programs.

Horn of Africa Community

Holds monthly meetings at Urban Communities office at 42 Derby Street, Kensington.

Laos Associations

Holds monthly meetings at the Community Hub, 94 Ormond Street, Kensington. 

78 Seniors Club

Holds weekly meetings at the 78 Clifford Terrace meeting room.
 

Regular activities

Indo Chinese Elderly Refugee Association

Arranges weekly activities at the Community Hub, 94 Ormond Street, Kensington.

Kensington Chinese Friendship Association

Holds weekly meetings at the Community Hub, 94 Ormond Street, Kensington.

Somali Women’s Support Group

Arranges weekly activities at the Community Hub, 94 Ormond Street, Kensington.

Doutta Galla Community Health Older Persons High Rise Program

Arranges weekly activities at the Community Hub, including gentle exercise, Opp Shop, midday movies and a library including an international language collection.

City of Melbourne

This community transport program offers weekly bus trips to Footscray and Victoria Market.

Current Projects

Pilot Community Garden

This project includes garden workshops and bi-monthly meetings. There is a waiting list for garden plots so please contact Urban Communities if you want to register your interest in this project.

Community Kitchen

Urban Communities and Kensington Neighbourhood House are supporting two community kitchens – a kitchen for single men and a kitchen for women from the Horn of Africa.

Fire Prevention and Safety Education

Urban Communities and the Metropolitan Fire Brigade are running a series of information session on fire prevention and safety in the home.

Employment

Public Tenant Employment Program (PTEP)

The Public Tenant Employment Program provides public housing residents with opportunities, such as accredited training, to develop work skills, confidence and qualifications. The program also connects people to jobs that can lead to full and/or part-time employment. Please click here to access the PTEP website.
